Maintained by the Freemasons, the George Washington National Masonic Memorial is a towering, awe-inspiring tribute to one of America's founding fathers. On the fourth floor of the structure, the George Washington Museum is designed to reflect the different activities and phases of Washington's life, from farmer to war leader to president, and contains a number of artifacts from the Washington family. Other floors within the massive structure are devoted to displaying and exploring the three main parts of the York Rite of Freemasonry. Four times a day, guided tours take visitors through the floors of the tower, offering detailed insight into the building, its features and its exhibits. The memorial sits northwest of the Alexandria National Cemetery, a few miles inland from the waterfront.
