Originally a torpedo factory during the World War I, the aptly named Torpedo Factory Art Center now contains three levels of artist workspaces, galleries, an art school, and even a museum of archeology. The archeology museum contains more than two million artifacts and records from the many archaeological sites that have occurred in the Alexandria area. The Center is located in the heart of Old Town Alexandria, on the Potomac River. Visitors can view and purchase jewelry, paintings, photographs, sculptures, and a bevy of other kinds of crafts created by the Center's resident artists.
