The Lyceum Museum is devoted to preserving the local history of Alexandria, with exhibits such as the Howard W. Smith Silver Collection, the Civil War railroad center, and a collection of Native American materials. It lies in the heart of the city's Old Town district, near the Metro's King Street station. The museum even includes a prehistoric exhibit, with data going back 20,000 years to the peak of the last Ice Age.
